Christmas and Installation Rally

The Jackson Rancheria RV Park was a festive setting for the 2017 Installation Rally,

The rally hosts provided prizes for  Christmas decorations.  Unfortunately, my daytime photos do not do justice to the participants and I do not have photos of all of the winners.

We celebrated both the outgoing and incoming board members.  Apparently the camera on my phone was not up to the task.

If you follow this website you already know we enjoyed good friends, good food and good wine.  Happy Holidays.

Paso Robles Rally

The Paso Robles Rally was hosted at the Wine Country RV Resort.   We enjoyed friendship, food, wine and local olive oil.  Many of us participated in a maintenance round table.  Some took a side trip to Cambria with a quick stop at Harmony CA.

We visited W.H.A.R.-Wolf Rescue to learn about the  wolves and wolf-dog hybrids.  Some are up for adoption.  We got to know Harley, a wolf-dog hybrid, who has received extensive training/socializing.

Unfortunately the tortoise said, “See ya later.”

Region 12 Rally

Norcal hosted the WBCCI Region 12 (California and Nevada) Rally at Jackson Rancheria RV Park.  Nearly 100 Airstreamers met to enjoy perfect weather and fun, food and fellowship.  We made new friends and renewed old acquaintances.

A Number of activities were provided to enlighten and entertain: we learned about trailer maintenance, played games, held a silent auction for charity and enjoyed evening entertainment (rock on) to name a few.  A group of amateur radio enthusiasts met to discuss the hobby, especially as it relates to travel and public service.  If you study the pictures, I think you can guess the theme.

We toured the Bella Grace vineyard and wine caves and were treated to complimentary wine tasting by the owners, who are also new Norcal members.

Of course we also took care of Region 12 business.

What Happened to the Missing Rallies?

According to the website,  Norcal has been inactive for the last two months.  Wrong!  Unfortunately my wife and I were unable to attend events in August and September.  It’s a long story involving children and grandchildren.  Hurricane Irma even makes a cameo.  As a result I don’t have enough material to properly review the last couple of rallies.  (Thanks to Kent who did send some photos.)  Fortunately you can read excellent reviews in the September and October Poppy.  I resolve to do better for the next three months.

How About This!

Congratulations to our newsletter editor who won the blue ribbon at the WBCCI international rally.  Great job, Steve.

Santa Cruz Rally

The coast, the boardwalk, redwoods and perfect weather- does it get any better than that?  Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort was the perfect setting.  Our hosts established a railroad theme.  The detailed models were created by host Robert E.

We rode the train from Felton, through the redwoods,  to the Santa Cruz boardwalk.  The train was pet friendly.  The boardwalk was not.

We visiting the UC Santa Cruz marine labs and were given a guided tour of the area.  We had a whale of a time.

As usual we enjoyed fun, food and fellowship.

Olema Rally

It was cool and windy but the sunshine was glorious.  The Olema Campground was very welcoming.

The wine and cheese tasting was great fun.  A chili cook-off on Saturday added spice to the weekend.  Thanks to all of the participants.

We took care of some club business at a general meeting.   Mostly we enjoyed good friends in a beautiful setting.

Monterey Rally

We didn’t make this one either.  We had planned to but a very stiff neck made it difficult for me to check the rear-view mirror.  Check the excellent write up of the Monterey Rally in the May-June edition of the Poppy.  Great job Kathy.

Calistoga Rally

Well, this happened, but your webmaster wasn’t there.  He and his wife were home acclimating to a new puppy.  The original rally site at Casini Ranch was rained/flooded out.  With quick thinking from our rally chair, a new site was arranged at the Calistoga RV Park. Kent S. kindly sent some photos from a field trip to the Castello di Amorosa in St. Helena.  Very elegant indeed.

California Dreamin’ Caravan

The winter caravan was a blast.  Thank you to the caravan organizers.  We ignored the wind and rain and went looking for the good life.  And we found it.  We found the beauty of the California coast.

We found old friends and new friends who shared the love of travel.

Ultimately we found sunshine, if only for a few days.

And we found wildlife and they kept a collective eye on us.
